There are guidelines to use intravenous catheters made by International and national organization but they are not being observed. The authors study the intern patients at hospital In Ribeirão Preto, to verify the permanence period of intravenous catheters, in relation to the bacteriologic condition and dressing and to evaluate the nursing assistance.
