Nutritive value of mixtures of bean flour and cassava meal. Biological value and digestibility

The author determined the biological value of bean flour and two mixtures, in different proportions of this flour and cassava meal, comparing them with casein. The study was made in two separate periods of adaptations:

— if we accept one week of adaptation as valid, a significantly difference was observed only between the biological values of bean flour alone and the mixtures of 75% of bean flour and cassava meal;

— if we consider that the period of adaptation must not be inferior to twelve days, the biological values of bean flour alone and of two mixtures studied (75% and 50% of bean flour) are lower than those of casein, to the level of significance of 5%

The digestibility of foods cannot be responsable for the differences in biological values of mixtures and in rate of growth of animals.
