As autoras analisam a problema enfrentado pela Direção de Enfermagem de um hospital, referente ao cálculo do número de pessoal necessário para a prestação da assistência de enfermagem aos pacientes. Referem que os hospitais, numa fase inicial, poderão utilizar-se de fórmulas encontradas na literatura, mas enfatizam que, posteriormente, os cálculos devem ser refeitos, levando em consideração o número de horas diárias de cuidados que, naquela situação, os pacientes requerem, e outros fatores locais que interferem na assistência de enfermagem.

Abstract in English:

The authors analyse the problem faced by the Nursing Service of a hospital when budgeting nursing personnel for patient care. They refer that the hospitals, at first, may use prestablished calculation in the literature, but they emphasize that later on, the estimatis must be corrected by their observation of the daily number of hours of care required by the patient in that particular situation and other local factors which interfere with nursing assistance.

Foi realizado um estudo para avaliar o estado nutricional de ferro, envolvendo 47 estudantes universitários do sexo feminino, cujas dietas continham, em média, somente 72% da recomendação para o ferro. Os resultados mostram que apesar do baixo consumo do mineral, a concentração de hemoglobina e o valor do hematócrito encontravam-se dentro dos limites de normalidade. Em face disto, discute-se a possibilidade de as reservas orgânicas de ferro estarem baixas ou esgotadas.

Abstract in English:

A study to evaluate the iron nutritional status was carried out envolving 47 female university students, whose diets contained the average of 72% of the recommented dietary allowances of iron. The results show that, in spite of the low consumption of iron, the concentration of hemoglobin and the value of hematocrit was within the border line of normality. The possibility of the organic iron stores being minimal or absent is discussed.

The nursing problems of patients in intensive care unit about their physical area were studied. The parameters to be investigate systematically at physical examination were determined. The statistical study revealed nursing problems qualitatively significatives in paremeters investigated.

Trata-se de um estudo sobre a influencia da quantidade de procedimentos invasivos aos quais é submetido um paciente assistido em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva e sua relação quanto à percepção desse ambiente. Foram entrevistados 100 pacientes com diagnóstico médico de Insuficiência Coronariana Aguda, internados numa mesma UTI e divididos em Grupo A, aqueles com maior número de procedimentos invasivos, e Grupo B, com menor número desses procedimentos. O estuda estatístico não revelou diferença entre os grupos A e B, tanto em relação à quantidade de problemas, quanto à sua natureza. A maioria dos pacientes dos dois grupos referiu problemas relacionados com a internação e, inversamente, a minoria percebeu sons e imagens que chamaram a sua atenção no ambiente da UTI. Dos problemas referidos pelos pacientes, a maioria foi de origem ambiental, com predomínio daqueles relativos à separação da família.

This is a study about the influence of the quantity of invasive procedures to which the patient of an intensive care unit is submitted, and its relation to his perception of his environment. A hundreed patients with medical diagnosis of acute heart insufficiency, all of the same unit, have been interviewed. They were divided into 2 groups: Group A (submitted to more invasive procedures) and group B (submitted to a lesser number of invasive procedures). The statistical analysis showed that there was no difference between Group A and Group B in the quantity and nature of problems. The majority of the patients of the two groups felt mostly the problem of being inside a hospital, away from home. Only a minority described problems referring to sounds and images of their environment.

As autoras, alunas do curso de graduação em enfermagem, relatam suas observações, em dois hospitais, sobre o manuseio para administração de drogas anti-neoplásicas pelo pessoal de enfermagem, com o objetivo de verificar quais as medidas de autoproteção por ele adotadas. Paralelamente descrevem as condições ideais de manuseio de tais drogas.

The authors, undergraduate nursing students, report their observation, in two hospitals, of anti-neoplasic drugs handling by nursing personel. Their objective was to verify which self-protect ion measures were adopted by them. They also describe how such handling should be done.

Ressalta, ainda, aspectos psicológicos da criança, da familia e dos profissionais envolvidos.

The author outline the most common causes of burn injuries in children, the classification of burns according to the seriousness of the wounds and the physical and psychological care of such patients. She also mentions the attention to be given to burned children's parents.

As autoras relatam uma experiência vivida durante o ensino de campo em enfermagem psiquiátrica na Escola de Enfermagem da USP, com um paciente com comportamento caracterizado, basicamente, por manifestações de suspicacia. Ressaltam o relacionamento terapêutico enfermeira-paciente como a base da assistência de enfermagem, abordando-o como um processo.

The authors, a nursing student and her instructor, report their experience, in a psychiatric hospital, with a patient whose behaviour was characterized by suspiciouness and tell how the student succeeded in helping him. They pount out the nurse -patient therapeutic relationship as the basis on which psychiatric nursing is founded.

As autoras, professoras de Fundamentos de Enfermagem, descrevem duas experiencias de ensino da metodologia da assistência de enfermagem, em curso de graduação, para as quais foram utilizados dois tipos diferentes de campo de prática; no primeiro, o pessoal de enfermagem não utilizava a metodologia de assistência de enfermagem e, no segundo, a utilização dessa metodologia estava implantada. Dessas experiências, duas foram as conclusões: 1º — A atitude dos alunos, que atuaram no primeiro campo de prática mencionado, era pessimista: consideravam eles, que a adoção da metodologia da assistência de enfermagem só era possível como atividade didática, mas não como atividade profissional; ao passo que a atitude dos alunos que praticaram em campo onde essa metodologia estava implantada foi posiva sobre a conveniência de sua adoção; 2° — Os alunos de Fundamentos de Enfermagem, devido à falta de conhecimento de patologia, não estão ainda preparados para identificar os problemas de enfermagem e propor soluções. As autoras apresentam proposta sobre a gradação do ensino de metodologia da assistência de enfermagem no decorrer do curso, a fim de torná-lo mais efetivo.

The authors, instructors of Fundamentals of Nursing, describe two experiments in teaching nursing process, for which two different types of field of practice were used: the nursing personnel of the first hospital did not employ the nursing process in the care of their patients, but on the second hospital the utilization of this process had been adopted. Two outstanding expected results were obtained: 1. The group of students, who practised in the first hospital did not believe the utilization of the nursing process would be possible in professional practices; but the groups who had seen such process being used showed a totally different attitude and agreed about the convenience of the adaption of the nursing process by the hospitals; 2. the students who are taking Fundamentals of Nursing are not get prepared to identify nursing problems and to suggest solution, owing to their lack of knowledge of pathology. The authors recommend the teaching of the nursing process gradually, througout the undergraduate course, in order to secure more effective results.
