Social and cultural insertion in Angola: trajectory of African migrants and returnees

Abstract

This article proposes to contribute to the dialog on intra-regional migrations in Africa, with emphasis on immigration to Angola. Aiming to understand the processes of social, cultural and linguistic insertion in Angola, from the aspects that present themselves as obstacles and the transforming factors, with the support of the communicative methodology, ten communicative reports were carried out with immigrants and returnees from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea-Conakry and Sao Tome and Principe. As a result, the war and armed conflicts in Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo stand out as obstacles and reasons for emigration. For the other immigrants, economic issues were the basis of the displacement processes. Language learning, on the one hand, proved to be a hindrance in the process of social and cultural insertion, but on the other hand, it proved to be transformative in the dialogical processes of learning the Portuguese language with nationals or Angolans born in congolese territory.
