Study of nursing care of children with Down's Syndrome

Diagnosis of Down Syndrome can be made in the nursery. The presence of an atypical child often leads to desegregation of the family. Nursing intervention teaching early stimulation, hygiene and feeding techniques permits better adjustment. The study of 10 Down Syndrome children and their families during o period of 6 years, made it possible to show that immediate diagnosis of the defect leading to early stimulation of the child and counseling of the couple led to more favorable results. Later stimulation was found to cause a more difficult adaptation of the child within the family.
