Cancer prevention and health education: opinions and perspectives of nursing

The objective of this article is to introduce some reflections and presupposed theories on cancer prevention and health education seeing that this is an area of utmost concern, both socially and professionally. Registered since ancient times, cancer has suffered a significant increase, the consequence of an increase in the hope for longer life, but, above all the consequence of the interference of external factors in its aetiopathology. It is estimated that over 70% of the cancers are determined by extrensical agents to the organism, intimately linked to the environment and to the population's lifestyles. Taking into account that health promotion, prophylaxis and premature diagnosis of cancer constitute powerful weapons which health professionals use to combat this health problem and in some way, control the increase of the illness, the same has not been verified according to expectations, so it is important to analyse and question these aspects.
