A hypertensive person's adhesion to physical exercise: an educational health proposal

This study involves participant research which evaluates the occured modifications with the implementation of a proposal educative for adhesion of the hypertensive subject to the physical exercise, with 15 hypertensive subjects. The data was collected through interviews and analyzed based on the subjects' experiences, according to the Behavioral Change Stages Model and on underlying premises in health education and effective literature. The data was analyzed based on Bardin's content analysis technique. In the first meeting, all the participants disclosed previous knowledge about the benefits of exercise. Three were in the contemplation stage, five in the preparation stage, two in the action stage, three in the maintenance stage, and the remainder in the termination stage. After three months of applying the proposal, we evidence that the group evolved in distinct forms, revealing diverse stages changes. The educational Behavioral Change Stages Model proposal proved itself efficient, since there was subject awareness about the importance of physical exercise in controlling the illness.
