Home care: a multiprofissional residency experience on family health/UFPEL-MS/BID

This concerns an accompanying study, aiming at presenting the home care program in the Multiprofessional residency Family health environment at the Universidade Federal de Pelotas-MS/BID. The results point to some limitations in the identification of people who could be included in the Basic Health Units program; difficulties for the implementation of routines and program evaluation; ethical dilemmas concerning the care that the elderly relative receives from his caretakers; the need for interdisciplinary attendance, and obstacles for the feasibility of home internments. The therapeutic partnership among professionals and users was a positive aspect. The population under home care totalled 100 people, for an eleven-month program with elderly, predominantly women. The most frequent needs for care were those for elderly people with physical handicaps and cerebral vascular accident sequelae. The care partnerships among residents occurred more frequently with womem, housewives, daughters, or wives as caretakers.
