Contribuição ao estudo de Briófitas como fontes de antibióticos

SUMMARY

An examination of 25 species of mosses and liverworts has indicated that 10 (40.0%) produce substances capable of inhibiting the grouth of various bacteria. The method of extraction included several solvents. The extracts were not consistent in their antagonistic activity against the various species of microornisms, nor were those that displayed antibiotic action always effective against the some organisms. Results indicate unstable products as well as physiological variation in the mosses and liverworts. This variation can be attributed to time of collection.
