Osteoporose pós-menopausa: opções terapêuticas

The author reviews the most common drugs used for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis to determine their efficacy in increasing bone mass and decreasing fracture rates. Estrogens, selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), bisphosfonates, calcitonin plus calcium and vitamin D were analyzed, and in conclusion the author suggests a practical algorithm for the treatment of early and late postmenopausal osteoporosis based on bone density and biochemical markers results.
