The association of mydriatics and cycloplegics: the effect on intraocular pressure on patients with primary open angle glaucoma.

SUMMARY

The effects of an association of mydriatic and cycloplegic drugs on the intraocular pressure of 20 patients with open angle glaucoma and 20 normal individuals were studied 30, 60, 180 and 240 minutes after its instillation. The following solution were used: tropicamide at 1%, tropicamide at 1% plus phenylephrine hydrochloride at 10% and tropicamide at 1% plus cyclopentolate hydrochloride at 1%.

The observered intracular pressure increase varied in relation to time according to the group of patients and to the solution studied.

A statiscally significant greated increase in the intraocular pressure of the glaucoma patients in comparison to the intraocular pressure of the normal individuals was seen ninety minutes after the use of the association of tropicamide at 1% and phenylephrine hydrochloride at 10%.
