Topografía de un desnudo by Jorge Díaz: Violence, Bureaucracy and Power

This paper aims to analyze the representation of violence and its implications in the play Topografía de un desnudo by the Chilean playwright Jorge Díaz. It is proposed that a reading of this play from the theoretical approaches on violence of Hannah Arendt and Walter Benjamin allows to account for the action of bureaucracy as one of the main agents linked to the preservation of power through violent acts and in its relationship with police violence, which determine the central conflict of the play. From the study of the characters in Topografía de un desnudo, who embody this mechanism of bureaucracy, we seek to analyze the way in which Díaz represents the violence they carry out, revealing the way in which he denounces an action that both in its context and in the present has remained largely hidden.
