YPIRANGA MONUMENT: AN IDEA TAKING SHAPE THROUGHOUT THE 19TH CENTURY (AND BEYOND)

Abstract

This article contributed to the field of research on representations of History of Brazil, by tracking and examining proposed ideas and projects for a monument to Independence, which would be built on the Ipiranga site. Its axis is the material and visual conformations successively proposed for the monument, from the 1820s to the end of the 19th century. It extends briefly to the Centenary of Independence, when, around the commemorations the Ipiranga Monument was completed
