Jesús Soto at the 1967 Venezuelan Pavilion: the “Suspended volume”

This paper derives from the thesis presented in the VIII Master Program in History of Architecture and Urbanism at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, which was entitled Villanueva and the Pavilion of Venezuela at the Expo 67: A Total Work of Art . This article studies the role that Jesús Soto had in the process of creation of a sculpture that was located in one of the cubes of the pavilion, detailing it from its conception to its development and realization, through all the collaborative work that Carlos Raul Villanueva led. Also, a study on the philosophical and artistic meanings and a revision on the concept of modernity, shown and hidden in the essence of the piece, are here presented.
