Productos de sociobiodiversidad: potencial para el agroextractivismo sostenible en Mato Grosso do Sul

Abstract

The search for sustainable agri-food systems is increasing. This study aims to identify the main initiatives of agroextractivism in the state of Mato de Grosso do Sul (Cerrado and the Pantanal biomes), their products, market/consumption perspectives, and the panorama of the institutional environment. Native species with processing and marketing conducted through family initiatives were selected. The relevant aspects of public policies and market potential analyses were based on a literature review. The use of 15 native species present in 12 communities demonstrates the potential of food systems with the recognition of indigenous peoples, quilombolas, traditional communities, and family farming. Sociobiodiversity products value their origin and social, environmental, and economic functions, and can conquer new sustainable markets, including international ones.
