Abstract in English: Abstract This study aimed to identify palynomorphs from sediments at the Gruta da Caixa d’Água archaeological site (Caetité, Bahia, Brazil), to obtain information about plant species represented in the archaeological records. The sediment samples were chemically treated following the techniques recommended for Quaternary pollen grains at the Laboratório de Estudos Palinológicos (LAEP), Campus VII of Universidade do Estado da Bahia. Permanent slides with the sediments samples were prepared for identification/counting of palynomorphs under light microscopy. Two samples were dated based on 14C, which 5,650-5,690 Cal yr BP at the 70-80 cm level and 520-540 Cal yr BP at the 20-30 cm level. 44 pollen types were identified in seven of the ten samples analyzed and most of them were related to the families Convolvulaceae, Rubiaceae and Convolvulaceae. A greater quantity of pollen grains was recorded in the more superficial sediments samples, while they were very reduced and/or absent in the basal layers. The pollen types were related to current representatives of the local flora, with a predominance of plants of herbaceous-shrub habit, indicative of secondary vegetation resulting from possible past human interference in the vegetation. The palynological results associated with the site’s archaeological remains contributed to broadening the understanding of the relationships between pre-colonial inhabitants and the Caatinga biome environment. |

RESEARCH ARTICLES The (morpho)phonology of oral stop consonants in Proto-Tupi-Guarani: open issues, closed issues and new issues Carvalho, Fernando O. de Abstract in Portuguese: Resumo Este trabalho aborda um conjunto de alternâncias que caracterizam todas as línguas Tupi-Guarani (TG) conservadoras. Three processes are reconstructed for Proto-Tupi-Guarani (PTG): pre-vocalic oral stop lenition, pre-consonantal stop deletion, and glottal stop metathesis. Both oral stop lenition and glottal metathesis are singled out for more extensive discussion, as previous research has overlooked important issues. I argue that PTG must be reconstructed with the whole series of oral stops *p, *t and *k undergoing lenition, thus implying that languages such as Old Tupi, where *k does not lenite, are innovative. The traditional reconstruction of word-final/pre-pausal lenes or continuant consonants is also questioned, and interpreted as resulting from an overreliance on Old Tupi, and PTG is reconstructed instead with final oral stops as attested in Kamayurá, Kayabí and Xingu Asuriní. Finally, the view that glottal metathesis, as attested in Kayabí and Kagwahiva, must be reconstructed for PTG is scrutinized. Its reconstruction does in fact explain the exceptional behavior of the glottal stop in relation to the deletion rule, but a paradox arises regarding the status of this segment at PTG. Several tentative solutions are proposed, but is ultimately rejected Schleicher’s (1998) reconstruction of ‘pre-glottalized obstruents’ to Pre-PTG. |

ARTIGOS CIENTÍFICOS The land of the ‘great lord Aparia’ and his descendants: on the Omagua/Kambeba in the margins of History Cabrero, Ferran Abstract in Portuguese: Resumo Com uma população aproximada de dezenas de milhares de pessoas, os Omágua/Kambeba foram provavelmente o maior povo indígena amazônico no início e meados do século XVI, quando foram conhecidas as primeiras notícias sobre essa sociedade. Abstract in English: Abstract With an estimated population of tens of thousands of people, the Omagua/Kambeba were probably the largest Amazonian indigenous people in the early to mid-sixteenth century, when they were first recorded. The famous land of the ‘great lord Aparia,’ their main ‘province,’ was located in the central Amazon. Archaeological remains have been found from which it is possible to identify the other two zones of influence of the Omagua: the upper Napo and, especially, the center of the lesser Aparia, of the ‘lord called Irimara,’ in the same river, at the confluence with the Curaray. However, no conclusive evidence is known to date that can establish the location of the capital, or main focus of expansion, of the Omagua/Kambeba culture. Drawing on archaeological ethnohistorical, and ethnographic evidence, including contemporary claims, this paper seeks to validate the hypothesis that the capital or main area of influence of the ‘main lord’ Aparia was in what is now the Brazilian town of São Paulo de Olivença and its surroundings region. |

ARTÍCULOS CIENTÍFICOS Comparative and kinship terms in the zoonymy and phytonymy of the Toba people of western Formosa (Argentina) Arenas, Pastor Kamienkowski, Nicolás M. Abstract in Spanish: Resumen Se estudian términos comparativos, de parentesco y otros que denotan afinidad aplicados en la zoonimia y fitonimia de los toba del oeste de Formosa (Argentina). Abstract in English: Abstract This study examines comparative and kinship terms, along with others denoting affinity, as applied to the zoonymy and phytonymy of the Toba people of western Formosa (Argentina). The data are organized into categories of kinship, names that reflect interpersonal relations, and relational and comparative categories. The use of alternative names to designate species is clearly indicated. Names expressing relations of hierarchy, power, or other bonds that the speakers observe among the species are included. The objective is to identify the linguistic resources to which the Toba resort when defining names of plants and animals, and the biological and cultural elements considered in assessing affinities. |

Abstract in English: Abstract The article discusses the prominence of Ventarrón-Collud archaeological complex in the sociopolitical development of the Lambayeque valley, from the Andean Initial Formative, integrating economic and ritual perspectives about the emergence of productive technologies in the region. The focus falls specifically on significance attributed to cotton nets and spider webs in the polychrome murals of the ceremonial enclosures and facades of the Ventarrón and Collud huacas. Two central elements are highlighted in relation to the rise of Lambayeque’s social complexity: the textile and fishing activities made possible by the cultivation of cotton more than 4,000 years ago; and the ritual symbolism that emerged and materialized in local art, at the same time. We propose that these ontological references proved resilient for at least two thousand years in large areas of the northern Andean coast. Our analysis examines the representations of cotton nets and spider webs featured in the polychrome murals of Ventarrón and Collud, comparing them with materials from other Lambayecan or northern coastal archaeological contexts, inspired by the following question: have the ancient populations of Ventarrón and Collud played a central role in the ritual economy of the Lambayeque valley, in the long-term perspective? |

ARTIGOS CIENTÍFICOS Inhabiting the sertões: archaeologies and sertaneja materialities in the community of Floresta, São João da Serra, Piauí Melquíades, Vinícius Abstract in Portuguese: Resumo A arqueologia histórica no Nordeste brasileiro esteve voltada, principalmente e durante muito tempo, para o litoral e para grandes edificações e monumentos, tais como igrejas e fortificações. Estabelecendo um diálogo com essas perspectivas, e a partir de um estudo de caso de arqueologia etnográfica, do presente e do passado recente no sertão do Piauí, proponho reflexões sobre as maneiras como a materialidade dos materiais participa na composição do que convencionamos chamar de ‘cultura material’.Abstract in English: Abstract Historical archaeology in the Brazilian Northeast has primarily focused, for a long time, on the coast and on large buildings and monuments, such as churches and fortifications. More recently, however, important research has been conducted on low-visibility sites, on the production, circulation, and (re)use of material items, on mobility and territoriality, in addition to other components of the ways of life and modes of existence of rural populations from the 19th century to the present. Engaging with these perspectives, and based on a case study of ethnographic archaeology, focusing on the present and recent past in the Piauí’s ‘Sertões’ (hinterland), I propose reflections on how the materiality of materials plays a role in the composition of what we conventionally call Material Culture. |

Abstract in English: Abstract This paper examines the social uses of Indigenous territories through the ancestral knowledge of traditional peoples, emphasizing the various activities carried out by the protagonists. These activities not only involve the collective use of land but also focus on sustainability. Sustainability here extends beyond conventional notions to encompass activities in villages that contribute to preserving and restoring the land according to Indigenous practices. The concept of ‘agriculture’ is explored beyond a Eurocentric lens, emphasizing the Indigenous understanding of agricultural spaces as diverse and complex, contrasting with the colonizers’ ‘simplistic’ and dismissive classifications of Indigenous practices. |

Abstract in English: Abstract The elderly and experienced individuals among Indigenous peoples are considered collective references of wisdom and guardians of traditional knowledge. Among the Aikewara, a Tupi people living in the Sororó Indigenous Land in the southeastern region of Pará, they are called warriors and 'living libraries'. This article reflects on the role of the elders and experienced members of the Aikewara indigenous people in building collective memory and maintaining and strengthening Aikewara ethnic identity. The article highlights the role of Arihera Surui, one of the few remaining elders of the Aikewara people and a key reference for the teachings she shares. Recording historical narratives through audio and writing, filming with cell phones, and participant observation constitute the methodology. The production of short videos about places in the traditional territory still unknown to the younger generations, the dialogues with the school, and the documentation of traditional activities related to food and health are among the outcomes of Arihera's work in Aikewara education. |

Abstract in English: Abstract This article presents two experiences in reading and writing by a graduate student from Universidade Federal do Sul e Sudeste do Pará (Unifesspa), a member of the Xikrín do Cateté ethnic group, conducted in their native language: the translation of a folder with guidelines on the National Insurance (NIN), and the writing of a final paper. These experiences reveal the Xikrín people’s aspiration to appropriate native language writing and employ it as a tool for strengthening, maintaining, and updating their ethnolinguistic practices, not only in the school environment but also in other spaces of interaction where written language is present. These experiences demonstrate that writing in the Xikrín language can serve as a means of recording both ancestral knowledge and Western knowledge resulting from contact. The practice of reading and writing in the Xikrín language can be understood not only as a strategy for strengthening the people’s ethnolinguistic knowledge but also as a strategy for the modernization of the language, expanding its socio-interactional scope in response to intercultural demands arising from contact with the hegemonic society. |

DOSSIÊ Psycho-animist well being as an alternative to the concept of mental health: a proposal based on brazilian indigenous cosmologies Sompré, Idjarrury Sacuena, Eliene Rodrigues Putira Abstract in Portuguese: Resumo O estudo discute as diferenças e convergências entre as concepções indígenas e ocidentais de saúde mental, com foco no conceito de ‘bem-viver’ de alguns dos povos indígenas no Brasil. Abstract in English: Abstract Theis study discusses the differences and convergences between Indigenous and Western conceptions of mental health, focusing on the concept of bem-viver (Good living well) among certain some Indigenous peoples in Brazil. Drawing Basedon a qualitative content analysis of secondary sources, it examines this work investigates how Western normative thought has historically diverged from Indigenous practices and how, more recently, a movement of rapprochement between these worldviews has begun to has emerged. The results highlight the contrast between Western and Indigenous paradigms, while Indigenous perspectives are grounded in integrative and community-centered worldviews with the latter being based on integrative and community-centered perspectives, Western approaches tend to prioritize biomedical and individualistic modelswhile the former prioritizes biomedical and individualistic approaches. The study concludes that this rapprochement calls for demandsnew analytical categories, such as the proposed psycho-animist well-being. It also argues that incorporating Indigenous care technologies into public health policies is an essential a crucial step toward promoting greater equity and interculturality in healthcare. Intercultural dialogue, in this sense, involves is not only about recognizing Indigenous sciences as legitimate systems of knowledge, but valid but also about expanding humanized care and fostering respect for diversity. |

Abstract in English: Abstract From the understanding that black people must remain vigilant in relation to racism, this article has the general objective of contributing to the fight against racism, through the educational experience of racial literacy, focused on anti-racist rights and the deconstruction of naturalized racist attitudes. In this context, the following question is addressed: How does the “Turma do letramento: o antirracismo em quadrinhos” booklet from the University Extension Project "Racial Literacy as a way of combating racism” impact educational training against racism? Therefore, this article has been subdivided into three specific objectives: first, it presents the construction of the booklet, its objectives of sharing knowledge with children. Next, it critically addresses racial issues by deconstructing stereotypes through accessible language and comics illustrations. Finally, it analyses the impacts of the booklet on raising awareness about the history of racism and fostering sensitivity among children from an early age. The adopted methodological approach is based on a qualitative case study, supported by bibliographic research. Among the main results, the empowerment of vulnerable groups stands out, providing them with tools to combat discrimination and to claim their rights by promoting diversity and inclusion through a handbook that contributes to the construction of a more welcoming and respectful environment for all. |

The conflict over the use and occupation of spaces in Amazonian cities has been driven by the pursuit of their coveted ecological, economic, social, and cultural potential. In contrast, spaces without official ties and community actions are highly relevant in the struggle for (in)visible spaces, where an intense flow of knowledge, resistance, and emancipation takes place. These spaces are manifested through the art of literature – the art of dreaming, writing and the valorization of words (written, spoken and recreated); encounters through books, welcoming and affective communication (oral traditions, ancestral traditions and narratives that are now told, created and recreated). |

Abstract in gn: Nhe’e byky Onhemongueta mba’éichapa hepykue avá kuña omba’apóva ha ñemongu’e Guara´pe oínva Mato Grosso do Sul’pe (tekoha Jaguapiru/Bororó), ha oínva Pará’pe (Tekoa Pyau). It highlights the possibilities of resistance that emerge even though these women are forcibly displaced by non-indigenous people, whether to the Dourados Indigenous Reserve (RID) in the first case, or to lands acquired after a long journey in pursuit of their dream of living in a ‘land without evils’ in the second case. Particular attention is given to the processes of ‘Guaranization’ of the new territories, as well as to the motivations that sustain women’s resistance and their pursuit of rights from a gender perspective. The discussion also addresses their strategies of struggle, empowerment and the promotion of equal opportunities. |

Abstract in English: Abstract This photo essay presents the life and leadership trajectory of Kátia Tônkyre (Kátia Silene Valdenilson), the first female chief of the Akrãtikatêjê village, located in the Mãe Maria Indigenous Reserve (RIMM), in southeastern Pará.
