The Editors received the following information: I am contacting you on behalf of Bioscience Reports and its publisher Portland Press regarding publication concerns surrounding a Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research manuscript published in 2019: “Differential expression of microRNA-411 and 376c is associated with hypertension in pregnancy” (https://doi.org/10.1590/1414-431X20197546) by Yang et al.
We became aware of these concerns through a reader on the platform PubPeer, who noted what appear to be duplicate images present between the paper described above and in an article from different authors published by us at Bioscience Reports: “NANOG regulates epithelial mesenchymal transition and chemoresistance in ovarian cancer” by Qin et al. (https://doi.org/10.1042/BSR20160247). The reader’s full comments can be found at: https://pubpeer.com/publications/0E534B886764629E6CEF28F39B5BF6. The Editorial Office then identified an additional duplication. Specifically, the following results appear similar:
- The Figure 5A OE-Nanog/T80 of the Bioscience Reports article (DOI: 10.1042/bsr20160247) and the Figure 4B Mock/miR-441 mimic panel from Yang et al. (2019) DOI: 10.1590/1414-431X20197546
- The Figure 5B OE-Nanog/T80 panel of the Bioscience Reports article (DOI: 10.1042/bsr20160247) and the Figure 4B Mock/miR-376c-mimic panel from Yang et al. (2019) DOI: 10.1590/1414-431X20197546
The corresponding author, Dr. Miao Zhang, and co-authors were contacted regarding this matter. We sent three communications but did not receive any response. Therefore, we decided to proceed with the retraction of this article.
In order to prevent further damage to the scientific community, the Editorial Team informs the retraction of this article.
