THE SOCIAL AND POLITICAL RELEVANCE OF THE HISTORY OF WOMEN IN BRAZIL

ABSTRACT

The article debates the social and political relevance of women’s history, as well as the diversity of Brazilian women, their stories, and the current plural feminisms. The women’s history must be visible because the women have always contributed to societies. However, what women’s stories have been told? Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (2009) talks about the “danger of a single story,” that may reinforce prejudices, emptying senses, values, and struggles. A single story dehumanizes the subjects if it is negative and partial. It is important to reflect on how women have been acting in history and what challenges persist.
