Abstract
The history of the meeting between Nietzsche and Dom Pedro II, once anecdotally disseminated by Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche, has been, for more than a century, provide by our historiography (by historians such as Oliveira Lima and José Murilo de Carvalho), by critics (by the modernist Alceu Amoroso Lima and the symbolist Tristão da Cunha) and the daily and periodical press, national and foreign. In this sense, this paper aims to discuss the motivations and political consequences of this long history for the Brazilian reception of Nietzsche’s thought.
