A CURIOUS FELLOW GRAPPLES WITH A HISTORICAL CURIOSITY

Abstract

This article addresses a cloudy episode in the history of translation in Brazil, regarding the vicissitudes of Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment in the first half of the twentieth century, up to the publication of Rosário Fusco’s translation in 1949. The expository nature of the article, written in an informal register, covers the doubts, hypotheses, and reasoning of the researcher character before he reaches his conclusions, aiming to demonstrate in a didactic manner some of the internal facets and thought processes involved in a historiographical study.
