Teacher education for languages for specific purposes based on genres

ABSTRACT

The demand for courses of language for specific purposes has increased gradually due, especially, to the open of borders, the internet and its popularization and the consequent widening of international relations in different contexts, from business to academia, to mention two examples. In addition, we have witnessed a significant expansion of federal technical institutions, for which there is a growing demand for teacher of languages for specific purposes. In this sense, the paper advocates that undergraduate courses in Languages and Literatures should consider this reality and cover the teaching education for specific purposes in their curricula. It also suggests that the work can focus on text genres which are relevant to the context and a possible theoretical perspective would be the sociodiscursive interactionism (BRONCKART, 2006; DOLZ; SCHNEUWLY, 1998), the approach on which this paper focuses. By doing so, the paper advocates that Languages and Literatures courses are not giving the necessary attention to the question and that a subject with this focus could contribute significantly to teacher education.
