Epistemologies in the introduction and development of written practices: identities at stake

This paper supposes that any work with facts of the world emerges from a reflection on knowledge, whether the latter is focused or dispersed, explicit or implicit. The paper conceives knowledge as a way of accessing the world and other persons, and it addresses here, in particular, the work with written practices. In order to show that reflection on knowledge has a vital role for the possible identities of subjects taking part in these practices, I set forth to illustrate, by using significant historical episodes, the introduction and development of writing in the lives of the Brazilian people.
