In this article we examine the portuguese hypothetical constructions in with the imperfeito do subjuntivo and the mais que perfeito do subjuntivo are used to revise the rules of the tradicional descriptions of conditional Português Fundamental and two volumes of A Linguagem falada culta na cidade de São Paulo, wich offers a good oportunity to compare the use of tenses in European and Brazilian Portuguese.
