Gender expression resources in teaching guides of the Primary Education Degree of the Spanish University Network: an analysis through didactic areas, autonomous region, and tenure

ABSTRACT

From a linguistic-discursive approach, this study aims to determine the variation in the use of gender expression resources in the teaching guides of specific didactic subjects in the Primary Education Degree of the Spanish University Network. Within a qualitative research framework, a total of 794 guides from 65 universities were analyzed based on the variables didactic area, autonomous community, and tenure. The results show a deployment of five inclusive resources and one non-inclusive resource, which is predominant in all the variables analyzed. However, there are areas and communities with greater deployment of inclusive expressions such as Social Sciences and the communities of the Basque Country or Galicia and less permeable areas such as Mathematics, Natural Sciences or Language and Literature, and the communities of Cantabria, Navarre or Murcia. Public institutions also manifest a greater number of inclusiveness traits than private. In conclusion, Spanish universities must materialize a progressive change towards progress in inclusive language in the development of the teaching guide gender.
