Living the Robbery: A Moment of Adrenaline, Delight and Performance

Abstract

Starting from the experience of an assault that unfolded in an ethnographic research with young offenders, Living the Robbery: A Moment of Adrenaline, Delight and Performance reflects on how the experience of transgression is able to offer unique rewards to the subject (KATZ, 1988), a sensation that intensifies for those who are subjected to the criminal subjection process (MISSE, 2010). Reflecting on the experiential aspect of these behaviors considered “violent” (RIFIOTIS, 2006) it is possible to perceive that a theft can also be a creative performance that involves a series of techniques and improvisations. However, the continuity of this process of self-elaboration can deepen the subject so much that it becomes a fundamental part of his daily life ritual.
