ABSTRACT
The article analyzes the legitimacy risks of exercising power with the use of new technologies, in a possible technocracy that makes political use of technologies as instruments to control the activities of individuals in a society. At first, it debates the meaning of technocracy and technototalitarianism, presenting the context in which the discussion about this new arrangement of power is inserted. Next, in defining the concept of technototalitarianism, he argues how it has threatened the meanings of democracy and individual freedoms in our Western liberal tradition. Finally, it presents some proposals for protecting the subject in digital environments as one of the main instruments for limiting the use of power and as one of the nodal points for rescuing their sense of democratic legitimacy.
