Abstract
There is a consensus in the literature on the importance of using therapeutic play, recommending its systematization in pediatric care planning, however, there are gaps in knowledge about how to systematize this care and implement it in hospital units.
Objectives
to propose a model for the systematic implementation of therapeutic play for pediatric hospital units and describe the steps of this process.
Method
descriptive qualitative study, developed in pediatric hospitalization and intensive care units, supported by the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check and Action) tool. Data were collected through observation of the dynamics of care at the unit and an interview with 11 professionals from the reference group, followed by thematic analysis.
Results
the implementation of therapeutic play showed positive results, from the perspective of the members of the reference group, in the perception of increased frequency in the practice of performing therapeutic play, and due to the recognition of the family and the institution.
Conclusion and implications for practice
the steps taken in the process of implementing TP in pediatric units provide support to guide professionals from different institutions to systematically implement this playful practice.
