Abstract
This study analyzes the military coup of March 1964 and the subsequent implementation of a dictatorship that lasted 20 years in Brazil. Diverging without conflicting with existing and known research, we propose to look at the Amazon, especially its southern portion in Mato Grosso, which became the locus of agribusiness in the country in the 21st century. This study aimed to analyze the duration of the dictatorship in the country with special attention to the impacts caused by a set of public policies of those governments on the forest and its people.
