Feminism and eugenics in Lily Lages’ discourses on maternal and child policies (Brazil, 1930-1934).

This study analyzes the work of feminist doctor Lily Lages in the 1930s, focusing on her proposals for maternal and child policies. In a context marked by the struggle for political rights for women and the rise of Nazi-fascism, Lages used scientific discourse to defend maternal health policies in line with eugenics. Our analysis contributes to the debate on the relationship between feminism and eugenics and to the understanding of the history of public maternal and child health policies in Brazil.
