The present article raises reflections on the thematic of work in the região missioneira gaúcha, a colonial missionary region in the extreme south of Brazil. The study uses as reference the legacy of the jesuítico-guaranis missions and their unfolding today, through the memories of the people who live in that portion of the Rio Grande do Sul State. For this, the article bases itself on field research conducted over approximately one year, which had as one of its ethnographic interests the attempt to understand the processes of landscape transformation in the region through technical-cultural actions related to the work universe.
