Resizing: a form of “critical reading” applied to Jörn Rüsen’s Historik

Abstract

The aim of this article is to resize Jörn Rüsen’s Historik, starting from the addition of a meta-epistemic dimension to the other dimensions that structure the project of this German historian. This proposal is presented as an exercise of a proper sense of “critical reading”, built in a dialog with theories about the condition of subalternity of intellectuals from the global south and, above all, with the strategies that they offer to face it. The main thread of such reflections are: a) the ideas of body, and incorporation as metaphors of feeding and anthropophagy to think about the incorporation of ideas, concepts and theories, but also the rejection of them as an act of ideological bulimia; b) the idea of critical reading as a dynamic of influx/reflux of ideas that, as a final result, are both recognized and resized. This resizing, in conclusion, is presented as a proposal to add a meta-epistemic dimension as an instance that precedes the pragmatic, scientific, topical and didactic dimensions.
