Spain on Portuguese Commercial Diplomacy during the second half of Nineteenth Century and the Treaty of Commerce and Navigation of 1893This paper analyzes the Portuguese trade diplomacy in the face of Spain during the second half of the century XIX. It is looking in particular for monitoring the various trade negotiations between the Iberian countries in the 60, 70, 80 and 90, which culminated in the signing of the 1893 treaty of commerce and navigation. But also intents evaluating national political trends on positive factors and negative aspects associated with the strengthening of economic links with Spain. In this exercise, it’s possible to identify a renewed role of Spain in the Portuguese geopolitics, such as on the economic growth expectations, following the Ultimatum (1890) and the end of the treaties celebrated between Portugal and England (1842/1878).
