Abstract
In many literary works, the homoeroticism emerges from a seductive gaze, which is revealed through the sensitiveness of an artist. Contemplating the attractive body triggers an erotic effect when viewed by someone who seeks perfection in art. This essay discusses the representations of masculinity and friendships in Machado de Assis’s Dom Casmurro, based on narrator Bentinho’s homoerotized description of his friend Escobar.
