STRUGGLES AND DISPUTES IN THE SCIENTIFIC FIELD OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION: THE GENDER THEMATIC WORKING GROUP AT THE BRAZILIAN COLLEGE OF SPORTS SCIENCES

Abstract:

This study aimed to understand the dynamics of the processes of struggles and disputes by the creation of the Gender Thematic Working Group (GTT) in the scientific field of Physical Education, specifically within the Brazilian College of Sports Sciences supported by Pierre Bourdieu’s Theory of Practice. The methodological path is qualitative and bibliographic with document analysis. The results indicated that the field has been acquiring autonomy within the entity; the coordinators’ trajectories were essential for its creation; however, in the movement of the scientific field, the struggles and disputes are not without interests. This study concludes that the field has biases and that the agents are able to create struggle spaces. Due to the accumulated symbolic capital, the agents that produce about the gender theme in Physical Education consolidated the GTT Gender from its movement in the scientific field.
