José Pompilio da Hora and “Racism at Itamaraty”

ABSTRACT

In the post-war era, an accusation of “racism at Itamaraty” arose. The purpose of this article is to examine how this subject was treated by the Brazilian press and by Black leaders, based mainly on the repercussion of the episode of alleged racial discrimination that the Black teacher José Pompilio da Hora would have suffered, on the part of the Rio Branco Institute, when he applied for the diplomatic career entrance exam.
