ABSTRACT
This article examines Fernando Henrique Cardoso’s thought, with emphasis on the period between the years 1969 and 1978. Guided by the dialogue with the history of “historical sociology” and by the perspective of ideas as social forces, we shall discuss how “theory”, “history” and “politics” appear in his studies on Brazil’s dependence and democratization, articulating his theoretical-methodological concerns and his political practice.
