Tolerância: uma questão política ou moral?

The article analyses the difficulties and the limits of the liberal proposal of grounding morally the tolerance from the ideal of autonomy. The author argues for a more sceptical, contextualist, political and pragmatic justification of the tolerance for a liberal democratic State. The problem of the tolerance must be treated as a political question, and not moral. The tolerance as practice of the liberal State must fill out a basic demand of legitimation, which delimits the exercise of the political power, according to those who claim the political authority on the others must offer good reasons about the basis of this authority.
