Sociedade democrática e tolerância liberal

The article discusses an egalitarian-liberal account of tolerance as a political value. It is an account that appeals to a notion that political theorists such as Brian Barry and Thomas Nagel have called "second-order impartiality" or "higher-order impartiality". The main idea is that there is a distinction of capital normative relevance between what justifies beliefs that belong to "comprehensive doctrines of the good", and similar ethical views, and reasons that may justify the employment of collective coercion.
