Music, Dance and Inclusion in the Educational Context: A Literature Review

Music and dance, as artistic activities, often function as elements of integration within the classroom. Thus, this paper presents a literature review on music, dance, and inclusion over the last 14 years. For this purpose, Web of Science databases were used with specific keywords. No form of inclusion was excluded—that is, all instances related to music were taken into consideration. As a result, studies addressing social, educational, cultural, or labor inclusion were identified. Regarding target populations, the keywords helped narrow the scope, maintaining a constant focus on education. According to our classification and closely aligned with the objectives of this study, six distinct thematic categories were identified and will be analyzed in this paper. The results also indicate that the relationship between music, dance, and social inclusion remains a relevant topic. Finally, the findings point to the need for further research in this field, with more proposals aimed at a wider range of groups.
