Possibilities of dialogue between humanistic approaches: listening experiencies of psicodramatists and gestalt therapists

The diversity of conceptions present in clinical psychology makes the possibilities for dialogue between approaches an important issue.The aim of this study is to understand the dynamics of approximation and estrangement between two humanistic approaches - Gestalt Therapy and Psychodrama - from the analysis of data from interviews with professionals in both orientations. A Grounded Theory analysis was chosen in order to build theory that is analytically based on the therapists' narratives. Twenty two professionals were interviewed, eleven of each orientation, who have significant path in this approach. The experiences that facilitated the openness and flexibility for serious and interested examination of the contributions of other systems include: contact with various systems early in his career, the assessment of concepts worked on another approach and the influence of someone who held important integrative practice. The admiration, loyalty and the feeling that one's approach meets the personal needs that contribute to the professional stay closed on contributions from other schools.
