Aggressiveness in adolescence: experience and expression of anger

This study aimed to improve the knowledge about the elaboration of aggressive-impulsiveness through anger, in the contemporary adolescence. For that, 120 adolescents of both genders, from 15 to 19 years of age, of public schools and private schools of Ribeirão Preto (SP), without previous history of sensorial, cognitive and/or psychiatric disorders were evaluated. They were evaluated through the INV - Form C and the STAXI (State-trait anger expression inventory). For the current study, only the STAXI results were selected. There were significant differences (Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Withney tests) in the scales levels of "Outwards Anger" and "Anger Reaction" , where boys had higher indexes than girls. The performance in that technique did not vary significantly regarding the socio-economic background. The results pointed to gender interference on the way adolescents experience and express their feelings of anger, as shown by the STAXI indicators data.
