An analysis of two cognitive revolutions

Since the 1950s, cognitive approaches have assumed a fundamental role in psychological research. Cognitive revolution is a name for an intellectual movement that began a new area of research known as cognitive science. One the other hand, a new movement called second cognitive revolution enphasizes the importance of discurse for the mental processes. The main objective this work is to characterize and to compare the two cognitive revolutions. Based on a review of literature an based on a historical discussion about both movements the authors consider the impact of the first cognitive revolution as well as the limitations of the second cognitive revolution. The purpose of this analysis is not contest the importance of discursive and constructive approaches. On the other hand, the authors affirm that these processes are insufficient to characterize a second revolution related to cognitive sciences.
