Ambience and mental health in juvenile deprivation of liberty

Abstract

This article describes the perceptions of the workers regarding the possible influences of the location, distribution and physical structure of seven socio-educational detention units in Paraná state, Brazil (Censes), destined to adolescents in conflict with the law, offer of activities and their relationship with the work processes and the institutional routine. This is a qualitative, cross-sectional, exploratory-descriptive study. The methodologies involved semi-structured interviews, focus groups and participant observation. Seventy-nine workers participated in the focus groups, with another eight interviewed, in large and small units, aimed at the female and male public. In this research, the relevance of the analysis of the ambience in the Censes stood out, with the limitation in the engagement of adolescents in occupations influenced by structural issues and greater distance from the units of urban centers resulting in a conformation of care closer to the segregating logic. The organization of space and the meaning of the activities offered also influence the mental health of adolescents.Resumo: Este artigo descreve as percepções dos(as) trabalhadores(as) quanto às possíveis influências da localização, distribuição e estrutura física de sete unidades socioeducativas de internação paranaenses (Censes) destinadas a adolescentes em conflito com a lei, oferta de atividades e sua relação com os processos de trabalho e o cotidiano institucional. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, transversal e de cunho exploratório-descritivo. As metodologias envolveram entrevistas semiestruturadas, grupos focais e observação participante. Participaram dos grupos focais 79 trabalhadores(as), sendo outros(as) 08 entrevistados(as), em unidades de grande e pequeno porte, destinadas ao público feminino e masculino. Sobressaiu-se nesta pesquisa a relevância da análise da ambiência nos Censes, sendo a limitação no engajamento dos(as) adolescentes em ocupações influenciada por questões estruturais e de maior distância as unidades dos centros urbanos resultam em uma conformação de cuidado mais próxima da lógica segregadora. A organização do espaço e do sentido das atividades ofertadas influenciam também a saúde mental dos adolescentes.
