WHITE IN BLACK : REVERBERATIONS OF WHITENESS IN THE BLACK PSYCHE

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the effects of the so-called “narcissistic pact” of whiteness on the psyche of individuals of color. This agreement, in short, is characterized by a nonverbal contract between white bodies to maintain their privileges. This objective of this study is to investigate the reverberations of this pact on black bodies, especially with regard to their emotions and affections, based on bibliographical data and clinical experiences. Constituting oneself as black in a universe that values the ideal of whiteness means experiencing a “non-place”, which results in psychic damage to the black community. Therefore, we are committed to decolonizing psychology as a tool to create new ways of being in the world.
