Psychoanalytical Listening to Health Professionals in Times of COVID-19: An Experience

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has produced effects that surpass physical health, especially in health professionals. This study aims to reflect on the psychic effects of the pandemic on these workers in a hospital context. It is an experience report, based on psychoanalytic listening. As a result, we observed four categories: helplessness in the proximity of death; anguish because the limits of scientific knowledge; psychoanalysis listening in the urgencies of the time; and the relation between listening in times of pandemic and the training of the analyst. We conclude, considering that the anguish points to singularity, based on the fantasy and symptom of each subject, concluding by the possibility of offering psychoanalytic listening in the hospital, as long as the analyst is involved in their training.
