Parental/marital perceptions' influence upon conjugal relations: ADI/PIT method

This study investigated the influence of negative marital and parental perceptions upon the participant's conjugal relationships and evaluated whether changes in such perceptions would cause impact on these relationships. A sample of 604 individuals, submitted to Personal Integration Therapy (PIT), answered a self-assessment questionnaire in different stages of the therapeutic procedure. The results revealed that in the presence of a difficult relationship with the parental figure, the participants characterized their parents with negative attributes. Besides, participants with difficult marital relationships also had difficult relationships with the parental figure, as well as perceptions of difficulties in the marital relationship of their parents. These patterns fall along the therapeutic process, showing positive possibilities of the ADI/PIT methodology in their clinical practice.
