Burnout and hardiness: a study of evidence of validity

The objective of this work was to verify if teachers who work with students with special needs would show hardiness and, consequently, no burnout, and also to verify the concurrent validity between the dimensions of both instrument Maslach burnout Inventory and Personal Views Survey. Fifty-six teachers, who work only whith students with special needs and aged 1954 years old, participated on this study. Five teachers presented resistant personality to stress and other three, who did not showed hardiness, had burnout. After the analysis of correlation among the dimensions of the two instruments, only the dimensions Control and Reduction of the Personal Realization are positively co-related. So, there is a concurrent validity between the two instruments, and it is confirmed the hypothesis that people who have hardiness can attenuate the effects of stress and develop less burnout.
