Development of Inventário de Percepção de Suporte Familiar (IPSF): Preliminary psychometrics studies

The goal of this study was to develop and verify the psychometric characteristics of the Inventário de Percepção de Suporte Familiar (IPSF). This inventory was developed based on international inventories of family support and on researches with students' answers about an "idealistic family". The IPSF, firstly composed by 192 items, and administrated to 346 college students in a private university, was reduced to 43 items by factorial analysis. The four dimension name's and the Cronbach reliability indexes were Family Inadaptation (0,88), Family Affectivity (0,86), Family Consistence (0,83), and Family Autonomy (0,81). The eigenvalues were up to 1,5 in all dimensions, with factorial saturation above than 0,45, explaining 42,80% of the total variance,. The results of this preliminary analysis corroborate the purposal of an inventory about the family support construct.
