Focusing studies of school coexistence on conflicts that lead to violence or bullying provides a limited, biased view; school coexistence conflicts are complex phenomena in which various factors intervene. Studies on school coexistence and its relationship with students’ perception of conflicts are scarce. The objective is to describe the process of elaboration of the Scale of Conflicts that Alter School Coexistence, as well as its analysis, which resulted in good internal consistency. The analysis was carried out by applying the Scale to 694 public high school students, with a probabilistic sample design stratified according to type of school and level of marginalization of the high schools and by clusters. The study of a complex problem requires an ethical commitment when thinking about the categories of analysis involved in its understanding, as well as novel and rigorous methodological designs.
