Open-access Education and Axel Honneth’s theory of recognition

This paper presents Axel Honneth’s (2003) recognition theory and the psychological and philosophical underpinnings that support the concept in the work Luta pelo reconhecimento: a gramática moral dos conflitos sociais. Furthermore, I argue that recognition theory is crucial for thinking about pedagogical practices that take into account the process of denying the values and rights of social groups and people, as well as the struggles for recognition of these historically excluded communities.
